Dobby's Mismatched Sock Emporium Shirt Design by SingapuraStudio Dobby's Mismatched Sock Emporium Shirt Design by SingapuraStudio
This shirt is available for sale at Redbubble: www.redbubble.com/people/aryon… Teepublic: www.teepublic.com/show/6781-do… and Neatoshop: www.neatoshop.com/product/The-…

I created this vector design in illustrator, using the pen tool. No bases were used.
I thought Dobby would love to have his own emporium, selling mismatched socks, of course, since they're his favorites. :)

I think it should be perfectly fine to wear mismatched socks.

This needs to be a real store. My socks almost never match cuz the wormhole in my dryer always takes one to another dimension.

Thanks so much! Haha, that's weird...I've had the same problem. I think it's a conspiracy. The conspiracy of the dimension traveling socks. lol :D Sockter Who

Exactly. The 12th doctor will wear outfits made of sewn-together mismatched socks.

The socks are not truly mismatched, as they both depict Quidditch. If one showed snitches and one showed, say, fellytones, they would be truly mismatched. My first thought was to suggest cauldrons, but isn't there a Snotter site called "Cauldrons and Snitches"?

Nice use of vector drawing tools. One doesn't see them as often as one might. I used vector tools (FreeHand, not Illustrator) for my John Wellington Snape drawings. [link]

They're mismatched enough for me, since one is mainly blue, and one is mainly white, and they don't depict the same objects. ;) But to each his own. :)

Nice vector with Snape. I actually prefer the pen tool, now, as far as digital art goes. Without having a tablet, it's the next best thing. I usually draw my designs by hand, scan it in, trace with the pen tool, and then delete the scanned layer. Sometimes Illustrator can be a pain, but I've been learning more and more as I use it. It's not as intuitive as some programs, but still it has a lot of great tools. It's nice to know I can make my designs any size I want to without affecting the quality. I still have a preference for creating art in a traditional way, but that doesn't work for the majority of shirt sites.

I do much the same thing--drawing by hand and scanning, then deleting the scan after I've finished the digital drawing (I'm morally opposed to the word "tracing"). For John Wellington Snape I used three or four different scanned drawings: Gilbert's original drawing of John Wellington Wells and some sketches I had done for his cape, hair, and face--although his nose and jaw are direct from Gilbert.

I use the point-placing tool rather than the pen tool, because I'm used to it. Some years ago I worked making maps using FreeHand, so point-placing became natural for me. I never got the hang of the pen tool.

I just got a new iMac, which doesn't support FreeHand, so I'm going to have to buy Illustrator and convert all my drawings. I hope learning Illustrator won't be too much trouble.

Haha, I can understand your revulsion for the "t" word. Sounds like your Snape vector was a complex job!

I don't think I've ever used the point-placing method. The pen tool is pretty easy, once you get used to it, too. :) At first it was frustrating, but reading and watching tutorials online really helped.

I took some classes at college for graphic design, and the rest of what I've learned about Illustrator has come through online tutorials. There's a lot of information out there to help. If you're going to work in Photoshop as well, sometimes knowing Illustrator helps with that, too.

I never do anything complex in Photoshop. I do all my complicated artwork on FreeHand. I'm just to lazy to learn another drawing program.

I can't blame you for that. :) I do everything in Illustrator and then bring it into photoshop to put it into templates and make pngs, jpegs, and mockups.
